Thesis FAQ

Below you will find Frequently Asked Questions on Thesis. Please read carefully before posting any issues.

When should I start my thesis?

Ideally, you should start working at your final project once you have passed all the exams. You can make preliminary agreements on the topic of the final project with your designated supervisor, but this shall not be done before that you have only two exams left.

What are the formal steps to graduate?

Please, refer to the General rules related to the final exam and to the deadlines for the submittal of the official forms to the Secretariat. All deadlines are set by the Secretariat and are mandatory. Be aware that you shall agree the project topic and collect the signature of the academic supervisor in person on the final project application form some 4 months before the expected graduation session; analogously, you shall agree the project title and collect the signature of the academic supervisor in person on the final exam application form some 3 weeks before the expected graduation session.

How do I make a choice about my final project?

You can either contact the professor of the subject of your interest to discuss project possibilities or you can make contacts with one of the companies/institutions offering research projects.

Can I make direct arrangements with a company for developing my final project?

Yes, you can make direct arrangements with a company, but an academic supervisor shall be involved from the beginning to agree upon the project topic, development and duration. Be aware that the final thesis shall be co-signed by both the academic supervisor and the company tutor. If I develop my thesis at a company, will this give me credits for the internship? No, internship and final thesis are two distinct activities to the point that the internship cannot be dedicated to work on the same topic as the final project.

However, internship and final project can be carried out within the same company. How long should the final project last?

Value and originality are the two key issues in the evaluation of a thesis. This implies that a reasonable amount of work shall be devoted to the research project. Be aware that a preliminary revision of the thesis will take place before final submission of the thesis for graduation; shall the thesis do not reflect sufficient quality, admission to graduation will not be allowed.

Is there any special procedure to follow should I decide to develop my final project at a company?

Please contact Stage and Job Office.

When and where should I submit my final thesis?

You shall submit an electronic copy of your work to your supervisor at least 3 weeks before the expected graduation session for a preliminary evaluation by the Committee. If approved, you shall then submit an electronic copy of the final thesis to the Secretariat some 10 days before the graduation session; the deadline is set by the Secretariat and is mandatory. You shall also bring a CD with an electronic copy of the final thesis and a printed copy (hard cover) of the final thesis on graduation day.

Can I graduate if I cannot attend the graduation session?

No, it is mandatory that you pass the graduation exam, which involves a public presentation and discussion of the research project in front of the Graduation Committee.
